Meaningless!&#8221; says the Teacher. &nbsp;\u201cUtterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.&#8221;<\/em> &nbsp;(New International Version, 1984)<\/li><li><em>&#8220;Everything is meaningless,&#8221; says the Teacher, \u201ccompletely meaningless!&#8221;<\/em> &nbsp;(New Living Translation, 2007)<\/li><li><em>&#8220;Absolutely pointless!&#8221; says the spokesman. &nbsp;\u201cAbsolutely pointless! Everything is pointless.&#8221;<\/em> &nbsp;(GOD&#8217;S WORD \u00ae Translation, 1995)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m not religious, but I&#8217;ve long been in thrall to Ecclesiastes. &nbsp;Surely in our time no sane man can believe life has meaning. &nbsp;If it did, it would be intolerable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s one of the tenets of my philosophy. &nbsp;I&#8217;m a Futilitarian, and proud to say I invented the name first, then a philosophy to fit. &nbsp;\u201cIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God.&#8221; &nbsp;The nearest I have to a god, at least. &nbsp;<em>In verbum veritatis.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a few more Futilitarian saws:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>All generalities are false.<\/em><\/li><li><em>All music is loud.<\/em><\/li><li><em>Curiosity fed the cat.<\/em><\/li><li><em>Everybody dies young.<\/em><\/li><li><em>Let bygones be big ones.<\/em><\/li><li><em>Virtue is its one reward.<\/em><\/li><li><em>Being is believing.<\/em><\/li><li><em>Most folks look better when they&#8217;re dead than they did the day before.<\/em><\/li><li><em>American anarchists drive on the right, British anarchists on the left.<\/em><\/li><li><em>Rigor mortis conturbat me.<\/em><\/li><li><em>Home is where you hang your head.<\/em><\/li><li><em>Eat cake and die.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I leave it to you to work out the rest of my philosophy. &nbsp;Whatever you construe will be as valid as any construction of my own. &nbsp;Let a hundred flowers bloom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why write more? \u00a0 I&#8217;m an old man now, and my <em>dada<\/em> is photography. \u00a0While my eyes hold out I&#8217;ll keep making pretty pictures, which you can view <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/subniuq\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What to write, what to write. &nbsp;Why write anything? &nbsp;Blogs and home pages are the acme of vanity publishing. &nbsp;Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. &nbsp;Or, if you prefer something modern: &#8220;Meaningless!
